I swear I hadn’t owned a plus size coat in nearly 10 years until 2018. There’s something special about fat girl coat shopping, as in I’m pretty sure manufacturers have decided that me and my belly will stay warm during the winter months without one. Every year I tell myself that I’ll get a coat, and I always end up missing the most awesome sledding days because the task was just too daunting.

The selections were so limited, but that’s changing these days! We’ve got plus size coat options galore! And the best part is they are making them up to size 40!

Look ya’ll, I know a coat is just there to keep me warm but I still want it to be cute! Fitting my arms into it and doing some outdoor activities in the snow would also be a major bonus. So I hunted them down. And I curated a little list for you. Happy plus size coat shopping you beautiful fat babes!!!

Universal Standard

Universal Standard sets the plus size coat bar high with beautiful plus size clothing that’s high quality and feels luxe to wear. Their plus size coat styles come in beautiful colors, up to size 40, starting around $150.

Eloquii

Eloquii has some of the most fashion-forward jacket and coat styles for plus size women, and they have a huge variety (check out their wide calf boots!). Sizes go up to 28, and prices start aroung $80.

Old Navy

I always know I’ll be able to find a classic, yet hip style and for plus size coats that’s the best I can ask for. But it gets even better when you find out how cheap their outerwear is! Sizes up to 4x, and prices starting at right around $45. I’ve already bought that plaid coat in the center for myself!

Amazon

Amazon has stepped up their plus size coat offerings in the last several years. Several of their in house lines now carry sizes up to 7x, and of course their prices cannot be beat. Many of their plus size coats also come in a variety of colors!

Avenue

It’s just all so reasonably priced! Avenue is tried and true and has the classic styles any plus size coat fan is looking for! Prices start at about $50 and sizes go to 36.

Target

Target’s line of plus size coats and jackets up to 4x are stylish without breaking the bank. They’ve got puffer coats, anoraks, shackets, trench coats, and more! And prices start at just $30.

REI

If you’re an outdoorsy babe REI is a great bet for your plus size coat needs! Their in house REI Co-op brand is well made and goes to 3x, with prices starting around $75.

That’s a lot of coats right there! Where did you find your winter coat this year? How has your experience been while coat shopping? Let me know in the comments! Happy shopping!

Hi, there. I appreciate your website but I am looking for a fairly "old fashioned" (I guess) long dress coat in a size 26-28 range that is well made and classic. Many years ago I was able to find nice ones at Sacks and Nordstrom, but now the styles there are all too casual for me. And judging by the very "reasonable" prices the quality is not what I'm looking for. I expect to pay in the $1,000 to $1,500 range for a decent winter coat. Do you know of a manufacturer I could contact. Absolutely nothing comes up in my on-line searches. Thank you!!

Thank you for understanding that fat is not a four letter word and we do not have to be afraid of it. I’ve been fat all of my adult life and I’m nearly 60 I don’t anticipate it changing anytime soon. If you think it’s bad for looking for clothes now imagine what it was like for me in the 70s & the 80s. (And in Southern California no less). You may think that SoCal wouldn’t need fluffy puffy jackets but I travel for a living I was frequently in the winter in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Utah, Colorado, & lots of places where I needed a warm coat. And it’s not just winter time that causes these problems . What always frustrated me when I traveled was that all of my average size friends, if they forgot a swimsuit in the summertime, or in some locations all year long, could simply go to the gift shop and pick one up needless to say that isn’t an option for me I’ve since put a big sign inside of my luggage that says “Don’t forget your swimsuit.” I was kind of sorry to see Redcat disappear they were a wonderful catalog resource. But with more regular stores carrying more plus sizes I guess maybe they’re just wasn’t enough money and being exclusive anymore. For you younger set Torrid and had some quite beautiful clothes although they weren’t particularly discount. There seem to be several sites that are stealing photos from one another and selling goods they don’t have mainly from China and mainly not the exact same as the photographs they show on their site and quite a few of them have plus size clothing this blog that I found was fairly helpful in weeding out some of the negative sites. https://written -with-love.com/online-shopping-goes-wrong/

I was not fat and now I am. & I didn't know how impossible it was to find a winter coat that fit. I have outgrown XL and am a 2x, I guess. I went to so many stores this year, since my coat no longer fit. I needed a thrift store coat, but that was not happening. I did not have much to spend. It recently dropped into neg digits here and I had no coat at all ? Finally went thru like 50 coats on clearance at Seirra Trading post... not a single womens coat fit me. So I migrated to mens and found a mid thickness (not as warm as i wanted but better than nothing) mens woolrich XL and could zip it amd move my arms ans shoulders, so I am happy... Wish I had found this list earlier! Thank you for making this post!

It should be spelled PHAT not Fat. Total different meaning especially if you want to sell your products!!!!! With that name I wouldn't buy anything. It's degrading.
